Root Beer and Holiday Days.......

My kids love their dad.  Love him.  They love playing with him each day and having a more extended time on our day of rest with their papa.  Papa usually returns sometime each day between 6 and 6:30 to a meal and two kids ready to play chase.  He sees the crafts we do in school and the meal I've made and knows little of the chaos that 2 pm held, or the tornado at 4:30, or the meltdown at 5:45, or the crazies at 5:55.  Our day of rest I expect a house to fall apart and fun to happen at a different pace.  I plan ahead with easy meals and snacks aplenty.
I don't usually write about this but today, our day of rest, has boarder-lined on one of my most stressful days ever.  At breakfast came the fateful words......

"I am thinking about making root beer with the kids today."

After a long pause to gather my thoughts into a respectful clarity I responded.

"Do you think you can include them?"

"They'll love it!"

"Are you prepared for it not to go as expected?"

"Of course it will take longer but......"

"No, are you prepared for the root beer to not turn out?"

He felt he was ready for all eventualities.... I tried to reason from my daily experiences but to no avail.  He was ready for everything except for Abe to pour soap into the mix when he turned to help Zana.  When he tried to call home in the midst of two kids at the table with all the paraphernalia spread out including root beer stickers I FLED to the bedroom only to be routed for brown sugar and white sugar that had to be ground.......a yelp from the kitchen after I warned that the kids like to run the mixee so I turn it on and off at the wall in case of them not obeying brought me at a run.

Abe has a cough and kept getting told not to cough on the root beer to no avail.  They are still, two hours later, making root beer and little voices are clambering "Papa...papa....papa..."

I am ready with pizza and a heart prepared to clean up my kitchen, and the dining room sticky with sugar (pop has WAY too much sugar) but for now I am stirring clear of the process.  Not all projects are kid friendly!

I gotta run I have three people at the bedroom door pounding and asking for help.
