How do you explain that she is not actually a "real aunt" and what makes an aunt real or fake? My littles have been poured into by their Australian Auntie. Abe and Zana firmly believe that her daughter is their cousin and that Aunt Winnie is a hula hoop pro. Both of them would go anywhere with Auntie (or Uncle particularly when he has his watering can) at the drop of a hat. They love their Aunties but their actual familial aunties are skype faces, photos and names spoken lovingly by their parents. It can be confusing.
Their cherished Auntie isn't the one they see for Christmas like a normative kid in the US instead it is the Auntie they see once a year in Thai Edenland who teaches them new songs, cuddles with them, and laughs with them. The Auntie below happens to have the same name as Zana. After Auntie Murphy, (who Zana believes is the fount of all gifts good after Jesus of course) this Auntie holds the prized position of being Super Special.
What a beautiful, wonderful gift to have people who love you dearly and treat you like a special little princess niece. I can't wait to return to the States and help my kids learn about their "real" family but I pray they don't forget their rich beautiful relationships with their beloved, talented, wise and fun "fake" aunties.

Why hold mommy's hand when Super Auntie
has a free hand!
You can't see Zana's adoring eyes looking at....
Super Auntie!
