Lumphini Park and others.....

If you find yourself in Bangkok with small children or just yourself Lumphini Park is a must....so most articles say however may I suggest a quieter, subtler, more kid friendly option called Benjakitti Park.  It is easily accessible via public transportation and is opposite the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.  The layout, rolling hills, large body of water and quiet surroundings make the dwarfing sky scrapers feel almost natural.  My kids loved it.

A major plus is that Benjakitti Park is near Terminal 21, a shopping mall designed to be like an airport with each floor taking you to a different major city.  The restaurant suspended above us shaped as a rail car in San Fransisco had the kids hooked.  The cheap, delicious Thai food court with the best prices in town had us parents hooked!  It helped to have cultural experts as guides but the ride through the mall gave us a glimpse of London, Istanbul and Tokyo.  The bathrooms with multiple flushing systems with little buttons (about 2 dozen) along the side of the toilet could have entertained Zana for at least an hour if I had allowed.

Lumphini Park, though larger, has many more people and a sense of touristy-ness coupled with a hustle and bustle of people exercising.  Our meandering felt a little intrusive to the busy sweating people all around.  Beware the roaming monitor lizards which can be longer than a grown woman.

Benjakitti Park's great kids area.

Performers at Lumphini Park.
The man is falling backwards with a child in his arms.
Though it was an act I almost threw up in horror.

Here they are balancing on the pole they climbed together.
People camping in Lumphini Park.
This is not normative so DO NOT bring a tent and plan to camp in downtown Bangkok.

My favorite part of the parks....
no dogs allowed!
maybe they are keeping them safe from the lizards.
