Abe has gone on strike. With his easy going nature I tend towards surprise when he really puts his foot down about something. Our tiny little international pageant starring children from ages 16 down to 2 is going to be something of a show this year. The tiny girls were delegated the roles of angels. There were only two small boys and it felt selfish to cast my own son as Joseph so I shuffled him into the shepherd camp with a bunch of pre-teen and teen boys. I knew they would be kind but it is kind of hard on a three year old. Abe did not complain until I bought the tinsel.
Yep. Tinsel. Meters and Meters of tinsel. For a costly sum of three dollars I purchased from the One Stop Tinsel Store in a small back gulley full of paan (beetle juice wrapped in special leaves) spitting men and flashing lights, probably 40 meters of tinsel. It came in this compact large ball that we unrolled on Wednesday. Tinsel House. What a mess. Never. Ever. Ever. Use tinsel when lights will do but with voltage at 220 I don't think I will be lighting up these miniature angels like some holiday parade so tinsel it will be for the angels (and our house).
When I put the tinsel on Zana, Abe watched hungrily. When I explained he would be a shepherd and shepherds don't wear tinsel his silence should have warned me. Then he sat me down and calmly said that he was going to be an angel. He held his ground on Thursday, Friday, today and now for tomorrow I am frantically re-writing and positioning him into the angel dance routine. Abe will be an angel and unlike his sister who simply twirls to the music he knows his steps and sings lustily.
I can't wait to see them perform. Hopefully they won't steal the show. I am just a little sad that I will have to sacrifice a white pillow case for the cause.
