When my sister's mother-in-law says, "What do you want me to send your kids." I feel a little like I am tapping into Santa Claus' legendary toy shop in the North Pole. Seriously. Marjorie has grandkids, other people's grandkids, and then my kids. We are related once removed by law and yet in heart she grandmommies my kids in prayer and lovin' (as I imagine them saying in the South).
So I asked for a doll. A doll with eyes that open and shut. She sent a Corolle Doll. Check these little sweet things out. Zana's smells like vanilla and has thick hair. She fits normal doll clothes and has lovely eyes.
When I first got back from the States Zana took one look at Corolle Doll in the box and blinked with her big eyes that clearly stated her consternation. I forced the baby into her arms and she held it like something made of glass. She then hid it under a blanket. She did not like the eyes. They scared her. She thought the doll was real but knew that it was not creating a difficult dimension for her little brain. You could almost see the clogs turning. She kept jabbering about the eyes.
Since then she has been playing with a little baby she has with more frequency. She has been talking about dollies. She has been tucking her bear into bed. She has gotten ready for her new toy.
On her birthday night she opened up her doll and her whole body shook with excitement. Her eyes lit up. She brushed her hair. She talked to her. She touched her eyes, ears, fingers and toes. She talked about how the baby doll had toes. She was enamored. She kissed her dolly. Wrapped her gently in a blanket and dropped her on her head. She is not ready to hold a real baby but with her usual passion she sure tried to care for her baby. Abe kept trying to be "a good Daddy" and hold the baby but Zana kept her turf. Forty-five minutes later, keep in mind my baby girl has about a five minute attention span for anything except books, we had to drag her away to take her to ice-cream. Folks all I can say was that it was magical. I suddenly understood why it is so much fun to give kids the moon.
We then got ice-cream while looking at the lit up houses for a Hindu festival that Zana is pretty sure is solely for her. Her eyes lit up again and the world was magical yet again.
She ate the ice-cream and I am glad to say has continued to mother her little dolly even sleeping with her in preference over "pink bear."
I love having a toddler. Most days. Some days. Yesterday.
