Cops, Cake and the dollar store

Zana turned two yesterday.  It rocked.  I got butterfly birthday hats, napkins, banners, and those blow out noise makers at the dollar store more than a year ago.  I spent a whopping five bucks.  It was worth it.  We took out two of the noise makers and used them in the potty dance while we were potty training Abe.  They worked like magic, those two party favor noise makers were worth the entire five bucks.  And yet the remaining 12 yesterday made magic.

Zana put one in her mouth and blew it nonstop for a half hour.  Hyper ventilating might be in her future.  She continued to blow with the same passion that she enters into all of life through the photo shots of her, with cake and her beloved Auntie who shares a birth date.  Through the cake eating (she chose an apple instead), through the present opening and finally took it out to eat chips.

A few dearests came to share in the fun.  And I in a moment of desperation while planning the party decided to enter into the world of Pinterest.  It is a deep ocean that I want to swim in!  I take back all my words about not getting swamped by other's ideas.  I found the craft of all butterfly crafts.  I love Pinterest but I must beware it could suck the life from me.... or all my time if you have wondered where I've been.

The Birthday was not without Incident.  When you are turning two and your friends are all three and bits you might not get to open your own presents.  One friend plopped down with her gifts and preceded to "unwrap" the gifts out of a cloth bag.  It was priceless.  It felt like family.  Wrapping paper?  Who needs it?  Unwrapping your own gift?  Who ever heard of such luxuries?  Zana unfamiliar with the concept of unwrapping her own gifts (no wrapping paper in our house either) regally watched the proceedings from my lap.  All other presents were unwrapped by her caring brother, inspected and handed over under duress.

The haul was magnificent.  Truly.

We blessed both birthday girls, ate cake and were crafting peacefully (Zana was gluing her fingers together) under a tree tucked away in a far corner of the University campus when the police arrived.  They mingled at the car, two scooters and bicycle.  We eyed them from a distance as they eyed us and discussed.  More official looking personal arrived.

They approached midway making motion my husband to step up for discussion.  Then we were asked to leave.  Five minutes to pack up the snacks, lunches, presents, crafts, little people and parents and get gone.  It was a dismantling done with speed.

We, six children and five adults jumped into our Nano with two plastic tables strapped on top and moved to another location.  The family of four on a scooter, was just beat by the family of three while the man on a bike finished with flourish all beating us in the car.  We finished up with snack lunches, quiet conversations, and lots of potty trips, nursing, running and jumping.  What is a party without a bunch of preschoolers?  Here are some photos.

Can I say cute.

A young sibling slung in for the fun.
Can I say TOO CUTE!

The two birthday girls.  Zana would not stop blowing that thing!

I felt kind of like a bouncer at some huge party.
Try keeping four pairs of hands off of the same toy
while holding two children.  Notice Zana sporting her hat.
The girl is a partier!
