I continue to work towards faithful blogging but life seems to get in the way and there are at least ten emails from dear friends waiting to be written to, dinner to be cooked, school to be planned, a friend to be visited, and a list continuing to scream my name......
Here is my week in snippets as I start another week and my great leap into Preschool.
School actually started a couple weeks ago but I was test running the idea. It has proven successful. We cut, paint, read, write, sing, dance, look for the letter of the day and do something about science. It is one hour but it starts our day with a huge bang and helps me focus the rest of the day on a letter or a concept. Today is U. Everyday I ask what letter will be do today and every day Zana yells, "B." Every day I ask what letter did we do yesterday and before her brother can look to where the letter hangs Zana yells, "B." This is not a new phenomena, rather it is about three months old. Both Abe and I have tried to break this habit but Zana with her usual tenacity holds onto what she says is her "fav-it ledder, B." This alphabetical prejudice extends into questions such as, "What sound does the letter R make?" Zana quick off the blocks hollars, "Bee!" Zana tells her Papa each night when asked what letter we studied that it was of course, "B." We continue to plug along Abe and I but Zana is stuck at B. Abe is reading small words and likes to write letters I am overwhelmed by his daily growth and thankful for his sponge like mind. He is right where he should B academically.
In case you think my little girl struggling academically let me brag a little. Today marks the one week plus a day that she has worn underwear. She is not yet two. Her birthday is in November. I am not a stellar mom. Let me repeat that, I am not a stellar mom. I am just an average lady in way over her head loving every minute of most days except the minutes I don't love and trying to keep my kids sane so I stay sane. I don't like potty training. Abe did it in a day using the amazing day method and then we traveled and he had to do it all over and then we traveled and we had to do it again. You get the picture. Such is the life of transient people constantly on the move. Abe's constitution and bladder ride a pretty consistent line so messes were few and almost predictable.
Zana on the other time is consistently going. She has definitely inherited my side of the family's bladder. My mom, my grandma, me and now Zana. I shuddered to think about potty training her. She goes all the time. Messes would be all the time. Yuck!!
I decided to wait till she was four or five or maybe six. She decided a week ago would be good to be potty trained now. She woke up at five in the morning demanding to go to the bathroom. It was a Sunday and we were due out and about. Not the optimal potty training day for those of you who experienced those days long long ago. But I let her venture out in undies. She went for three days with NO accidents. Not a one. I did not bribe her or have to do the potty celebration dance. She just entered into panties with the wholehearted fervor natural to her. This ladies and gentlemen was no B grade potty training experience but rather a humungous A.
Lastly my kids know the word for crocodile in Hindi and use it more than in English. Should I be worried? Otherwise they use English mainly but Zana sometime warbles in Hinglish.
Needless to say I am mommy who is tired of the letter B, glad to no longer have to do a daily load of cloth diapers (yes she went THAT often) and juggling life in another language. Life this last week was good.
