December Third........Luke Three

Here it is.  The genealogy.  Names, just names, that at times an unsuspecting scripture reader draws as a short straw and stumbles through.  Those of us still stuck in Junior High have a silent giggle while they sweat and fumble.

Here it is people.  In South Asia name comes from ancestors.  From history.  Name is everything.  It doesn't just reveal whether you have a smattering of German mixed with Irish history it reveals your trade, your caste, your potential in business matters, your education, and who you are allowed to marry.  In Iran, it denotes whether you can lead or not.  The British royal name holds weight but a commoner can marry a prince.  Not so in most of South Asian thinking.  Nepotism runs redder than blood.

With that comes a pride in history.  A knowledge of past ancestors.  Sometimes even a worship of those ancestors.  Here in this mass of names we see God revealing His plan, His promise, His commitment to fulfill His word to the letter.  We see the revelation of a King.  King Jesus was not a Jewish usurper but a rightful Heir.  All Praise to Our King the Son of God.
