Friends that Make the Transition Easier......

Popping In.

I have two friends that have just POPPED in.  They both gave a warning call but then they just popped.  One continues to do so on a regular basis.  In the act of herding my children towards the car in hopes to run an errand in a small window of time, I paused in the act of car stuffing as a van pulled in.  Random visit.  Glory Be!

In Asia my friends pop in.  Of course there are rules.  They take awhile to learn but they are there.  If Hubster is home no one pops (except this fabulous live out loud widow who drops in when she feels like it and stays to nap if she feels like it and eats if she feels like it).  If it is a meal prep time, no one pops.  If it is summer siesta time, no one pops.  If it is before ten people don't pop but after ten is acceptable if the lights are still on.  If it is winter and dark people don't pop.  But at all other times popping within our immediate neighbors happens.  Not so in the US of A.

I miss this.  It keeps me on my toes.  So I try to tell people to POP!  So far one friend has continuously just tarried for a time to share conversation, prayer and ice water.  I am thrilled.
Another friend shocked my socks off by dropping by like fresh rain on the dry earth while I was at my in-laws.  She just came family and all and reminded our whole family of the blessing of friendship that keeps kids up late to celebrate them, giggles over miracle puppies, and holds twilight talks in drive ways while the world slowly spins.

As I miss my chai times I am learning about the leaning over the fence time, the walking around the block time, the chattering across the street time and I am enjoying the "popping" times that happen here too.  Through trial and error I am learning not to pop in on others but I continue to encourage people to pop in on me.  So if you live nearby or you are traveling through pop in!
