Dinosaur Extinction

I went away for two and two half days.  All Alone.

In the interim the school dinosaurs went almost extinct.  Three of the seventy remain and I have little hope that they will reproduce miraculously.

In the oasis of my break somehow in our small home 63 dinosaurs walked into the oblivion never to be found again.  I sensed their absence almost in the first hours of my arrival home when I could not use them in a math problem.  I thought about them while I gave my hair its' weekly spa of shampoo, I thought about them while I picked up cars, animals, magnets but no dinosaurs.

The mystery remains, where did they go?  It is a small price to pay for the two days of bliss.  I love my children, my family, however a break, all alone, gives space to a crowded life.  No laundry, no dishes, no one talking, or singing or peeking while I am showering, no fighting while I dress for a dear friend's wedding, no quarreling while I drive in the car, no cracked and splintered conversations while I listen to a heart and monitor two souls.  It was heavenly to return after a weekend of walking down memory lane with young ladies I had known as girls, women who were soul sisters, and people who knew me during a season of great fruit.

I am thankful for the gift of the ticket from a friend, the gift of service in watching the children from my husband and the gift of joy from my Father who gave joy in the going and joy in the coming.

  1. It's so good to hear that you got away...some time away helps with mothering and wife-ing so much. I wonder what happened to the dinosaurs? Down the toilet maybe? Love you. L
