Will we be tourists.....

You see all types in our melting pot of an overgrown village.  We have the wild Russians with their outfits which scream of color and clashing.  We have the Eastern tourist groups with their cameras worn like accessories.  We have those that try not to stick out but their Pilgrim Progress Backpacks of burden weigh them down and mark them as......tourists.

To two little white kids the spotting of another white person marks a debate on whether this person is someone we know or a "tourist."  Tourists we tend to not greet.  Lifers or career people, foreigners who live in this city not their own making it home, we greet and know.  Tourists however aren't just unknown people they are those who often sport piercings, dreadlocks, and tattoos.  These in themselves are not foreign to my children whose all time favorite Auntie and Uncle not only have piercings but dreadlocks and also tattoos.  This darling duo, the auntie and uncle not my offspring, aren't both sporting the trifecta but between them they got it all covered.  They personify cool in a lot of people's eyes including little Abe and Zana.

So leads to Abe's question of the day.  "When we get to America will we be tourists?"
A secret hope perhaps of a large backpack or dreadlocks.  I felt bad informing him we would not be tourists and we would not be riding around everywhere on a rickshaw.

It got me thinking about our transition though.......I am thinking maybe it is time for a tattoo.  Maybe not.  At least a hair cut is in order as it seems to be falling out anyways with the stressful thought of being a "tourist."
