Five Favorite things about this city....... today
1. Man in winter bomber jacket with white handkerchief on top of head to keep off the bright sun.
2. Temperatures soaring the sun but everyone still wearing their winter clothes while sweating. It is kind of like Minnesotans fighting back the cold with shorts as soon as the sun shyly pokes it's long lost face out after winter. Here we try to push the sun back by continuing to wear our winter clothes in rebellion. I watched a hot momma in a sari wiping her brow of sweat while wearing a shawl, sari sweater and little baklava. I grinned while blasting my AC and refusing to take MY own sweater off. The Hindu Holiday of Holi is the change marker of winter to summer (you can't put your blankets away till you've thrown a little color) doesn't happen for another month. Everyone says this year is different.
3. Men marching through the streets with guns, trumpets, flowers and painted foreheads. A huge bus and flowered car following with police on horses proceeding first. A wedding procession. Chaos. Life as it should be....... I wonder if a business venture that sought to teach these trumpeting wedding musicians some new tunes would sink or swim?
4. Police directing traffic from a platform with two peons down below with large sticks hitting all vehicles not obeying directions. Those fancy cameras in London can eat their hearts out sending tickets for naughty drivers. How satisfying to wave an arm and have the offender soundly whacked. New paint job anyone?
5. Did I say I love this city. Last but not least the best thing seen in awhile a recently married friend with her new husband looking happy, healthy and alive. To not know the groom or his family to say goodbye and move to another place cannot be easy and she went with mush trepidation. I sent her off with prayer and as she left today she again begged for me to pray for her. "Everyday" I promised. "Everyday!"
