We have a playmobile Nativity. The beautiful Nativity with a camel with long legs and Mary with a duputta. It takes center stage in our living room. We love this Nativity, almost as much as the wooden one from Bethlehem or the Sindhi one made by widows in Pakistan or the cloth one made by lepers in India. Have I expressed how much I love Nativities?
I remember growing up with Christmas being all about Jesus' birthday. My mom would set up the Nativity and BINGO hours of fun for my sister and I. All the animals facing into the manger worshiping. Or maybe everyone far away getting news from an angel or seeing a star. Hours of fun. Now my kids play with Playmobile and Little People Nativities and I hear sentences like,
"You will haff a baby, name it Jesus, o-Tay?"
"O-tay."
The playmobile nativity undoubtedly rates a five in durability but mix a two year old with marble floors and Voila! Jesus' head is rolling across the floor while ratings plummet. Somehow this was not supposed to be part of the story....maybe Herod's but not the one that actually happened.
Praise God that Herod couldn't win. Praise God that there is no one who can foil His plan of Redemption in our lives through Jesus. A baby came, a baby lived and Herod didn't make His head roll because God had a Greater Plan which no one, not even a king, could foil.
I am also praising God for Fevi-Glue and a handy dandy husband! Jesus WILL have his head back.
