Before Christmas I got a Christmas package full of perfect goodies for my kids, Christmas breakfast treats, and just a whole lot of Jesus centered joy for a family of four with little ones. Well....... this last week guess what. The same package genie was at work. Her package sent, arrived in less than a week. It was complete with two choice new books (one with a handle that Zana drags around like a purse), letters and other fabulous little goodies. My kids love these packages. Chad and I love them because they love them and because there is always some unexpected sweetness for adults too. This time thankfully the heat didn't scorch the chocolate chips.
As temps rise here in our city, water gets imperative. Cold water a treat. It is actually sold on the street by men pushing around refrigerated water. Cold water tastes delicious, gives a pick me up, and is just all around refreshing. Friendships are like that. Refreshing. At times when I feel too weary to even lift my feeble head some dear friend gives a word of life, a snack of sustenance, or a shoulder to lean on. Other times when life is cheery and bright cold water comes in just the same way with just the same results. Encouragement. It can be lonely here in the place of great color, life and excitement. For young moms it can be lonely in their own culture let alone a culture different from their own so cold water feels good. Real good. This package was like drinking ice water AND taking a cold shower!!
It has got me thinking. How can I be a cold water giver. How can I reach out more? How can I speak, act and love more in step with the Spirit so as to bless in real, tangible, unexpected, beautiful, creative ways someone struggling around me. How can I walk in step with the Spirit so as to feel energy to do more than what each day already requires? How can I give a cold glass of water to someone today in His name for His glory?
One of my all time favorite people in the whole wide world lives a spent life. She left her home culture for the first time to live in another culture after she turned 60. She is pure gold. Everyday she prays asking God to have her where He wants her, doing what He wants her to do, saying what He wants her to say. So simple yet so profound and might I add she then listens with her two lovely ears dangling with huge earrings to all that her Father calls her too for each new day.
Help me Father to want to give cold water and then to act in giving cold water through your strength. Amen.
