I have to retake my driver's exam to get a new lisence when I return to the States. Hence I am reading the DMV Driver's Manual.
Here is the question.... if you have entered a roundabout (I am not sure that there are more than a dozen roundabouts in all of Minnesota) what is your course of action if an emergency vehicle approaches?
I sit listening to the horns of countless types of vehicles outside. The sun is streaming in through my window, my daughter is playing beside me, my son is napping, I am sweating from the back of my knees and reading through a slew of vehicular rules that frankly make me laugh.
In a country where there are SO few rules and traffic seems to do just fine, reading the rules of another country almost seems ludicrous. I am trying to practice a more Indian vehicular approach to my parenting this week. My little toddler Abe can hear "No!" much to often. I am working on keeping the rules to few and the "yeses" to many. Maybe then my heart will merge towards his in finding more things to say yes about that cause him to listen and obey the few nos with more consistency. It isn't that I just want to say no less but I want to say yes more.
We serve a Heavenly Father whose Son's resurrection meant that all of His promises were YES and amen! I want to be a "Yes" mommy who isn't always saying no for my own comfort, control and convenience. I want to be a "Yes" mommy who cultivates a sense of adventure, of openness and inclusion that requires me to rest more in those promises that are mine through Christ Jesus my Lord.
Of course I will still say "No" but I hope for reasons that are for Abraham and his growth, safety and good. So this week I am working on the word "yes" with my little toddler.
By the way, if you find yourself driving around a roundabout in Minnesota and an emergency vehicle approaches, exit that roundabout immediately!
