I was sweating, I was terrified, I was begging God to help me not be afraid of man. Why? Pastor Piper was coming with his wife, Noel, to my classroom to talk about their beautiful faith filled daughter Talitha who I happened to teach Bible to (like I had anything to offer the daughter of these two amazing people). When they left my overall impression was, "Pastor Piper is a prophetic, spitfire preacher but in person one of the most humble men I have ever met." As I heard he was leaving his position at Bethlehem Baptist Church I wondered who could ever fill such a great man's shoes. I prayed God would prepare the church family at BBC and the elders to embrace whoever God brought.
Pastor Piper is handing over his position at his humongous church to someone named Jason Meyer. Today on our family day we all watched a chapel sermon he preached some time ago at Bethlehem Baptist's Seminary. It was fantastic. It was convicting. It was well worth it.
Is there someone difficult to love in your life right now?
Are you loving conveniently? Or do you love those around you with a costly love?
Is there someone who you would rather not love?
Perhaps you do not have a whole half an hour to watch this but I would suggest the five minutes alone. The message is good, the word crafting (in my opinion) great, and to my delight the hand motions typical Piperesque.
Perhaps one of my favorite lines because of its pure poetry was "tether our thoughts." The sermon was not about taking every thought captive but in a single phrase he evoked the importance of being tethered to the word and taking ever thought captive! Loved the word smithing but loved even more how God used this message to convict ME today. Enjoy.
